W-OC came into existence when a former English
teacher-turned-business communications writer put grading papers, corporate cubicles and
all associated hoops behind!
Today,
W-OC draws on more than a decade of copywriting and editing experience in arenas that
encompass marketing, advertising, corporate communications, direct mail and public
education.
We're
always looking for intriguing assignments, but we'll tackle the mundane, too! Mostly, we
want to work with good people who also want to work with good people...and realize a
tangible benefit to their business, as well.
You should work with W-OC.
Because
you want someone who knows what it takes to make your message stand out and help your
business succeed.
Someone
who focuses not on "the account," but on you.
Someone
who has crafted communications across a spectrum of trades: Funky fleece. Cable.
Non-profit. You name it.
Someone
who, at the end of the day, is looking forward to making your bottom line better tomorrow.
When you
work with W-OC, your projects will be infused with creativity, supported by solid writing
skills, and completed to your satisfaction. We'll even throw in that rare attribute, a
save-the-day sense of humor, that makes the whole process go more smoothly!

launched. At W-OC, our goal is to help individuals and businesses develop "the
message you want" and achieve
"the results you need."

- 2001
to 2003, CATALOG COPYWRITER,
CONCEPTS DIRECT INC., LONGMONT, CO.
Concepts
Direct distributes a number of direct mail catalogs, one of which is Colorful Images
(www.colorfulimages.com), offering a variety of gift merchandise. My responsibilities
involved writing copy for specialty inserts targeted
to buyers with identified purchase tendencies. I also
wrote for the company's other catalogs: Linda Anderson (lindaanderson.com), Snoopy
Etc. (snoopyetc.com),
Garfield Stuff (garfieldstuff.com), and The Music Stand
(themusicstand.com).
- 1999
to 2001, ADVERTISING COPYWRITER,
LUNDWALL CREATIVE INC., LITTLETON, CO.
Read letters of recommendation:
from Jerry Lundwall, President
from Jim Ingolia, VP, Creative Director
At
Lundwall Creative, I teamed with creative directors and designers to deliver primarily
business-to-business advertising and marketing projects. A typical day might include a
brainstorming session to begin developing the theme for an upcoming trade show, planning
and researching content for a newsletter, conducting a phone interview to derive content
for a product brochure, proofreading and editing an in-house (Genuine Article Press)
publication, and updating clients' web sites.
§
1996 to 1999,
CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, MCI WORLDCOM DIRECT, DENVER, CO.
MCI WorldCom Direct was a
sales-driven telecommunications company. A key incentive for the
500+ member sales force was a monthly publication called the TeleConnection. I
elicited success stories from 28 branch offices, polished and re-wrote anecdotes, compiled
ongoing contest stats, conveyed motivational words from management, and coordinated with
graphic artists and printers to final production and fulfillment. Additionally, I
developed themes for frequent sales showdowns (e.g. Formula Won, License to Sell, Case of
the Fourth Quarter), writing associated copy that included rollout guides, video scripts,
contest standing updates and a culminating Peak Performance Awards speech given by the
division president.
- 1993
to 1996, MARKETING ASSISTANT,
VIDEO PROFESSOR INDUSTRIES INC.
LAKEWOOD, CO.
Video
Professor produces videos and CDs that teach people to use computer software. My
contributions here included providing input in packaging design, writing product
descriptions, directing the creation and implementation of call center telemarketing
scripts, developing consumer product brochures, and interacting with sales and production
to deliver print/radio ads and TV infomercials. Perhaps one of my most useful
contributions was the assessment of current customer service processes, resulting in the
comprehensive technical documentation of a company-first training manual.
